Traditional Hand-Carving At Its Best
Our crucifixes come from the geographical area of Slovakia, which has a long tradition of hand-carving. The first wooden crucifixes appeared approximately in 1700 A.D. This craft was passed from generation to generation, withstanding the First and Second World Wars. In 1948, the communists took power in Slovakia where they actively persecuted Christians. However, the tradition of hand-carving survived even with forty years of persecution. Thanks to devoted ordinary people, this tradition lives on today. We are glad to be able to provide these limited edition carvings direct to you.
